The definition of European luxury travel used to mean rail travel. However, given the advent of mass rail transportation across the continent, many Europeans now consider rail travel to be somewhat run-of-the-mill. Indeed, unless youre traveling on a special car thats stratified to provide ample luxuries for first-class passengers, going by rail can be somewhat tedious.
So what are alternative forms of European luxury travel? One of the most remarkable ways to visit Europes great cities and attractions is via a river cruise. A tour of Europes twisted waterways is refreshing, in that you get exposed to fresh air and diverse cultural experiences. Moreover, unlike rail travel, which is governed by the stopwatch, cruise travel is more organic and spontaneous.

Of course, while traveling by boat can be somewhat of a rustic adventure, there are cruise lines which offer every amenity. Moreover, Europe is replete with waterways to take you to the most prominent cities and to the most rural hamlets. When you travel by rail, on the other hand, youre restricted in that you must begin any day adventure at a hub city.
You can never over-plan your luxury travel vacation. Research the regions in Europe to which your tour will travel before you set sail, so you can participate more fully in the cultural dialogue. When you know the history of a region, you wont have to rely on tour guides to deliver common knowledge and instead you can focus on defining a unique and exotic European travel experience.
